The experience

Required level

Explore the magnificent Val Veny with a scenic trek starting from the Courmayeur Cable Car. Once you reach the Pré de Pascal area, the trail gently winds towards the Rifugio Maison Vieille, famous for its warm hospitality. Continuing along the balcony, you will encounter the crystal-clear waters of Lake Chécrouit, reflecting the spires of Mont Blanc. The route continues through alpine pastures to the picturesque Cabane du Combal, at the foot of the Miage glacier. A charming path, rich in refuges and legendary views.
The level required for this excursion in Val Veny is accessible and suitable for everyone, from beginners to families with children. Thanks to the initial use of the cable car, the route remains at altitude with little ascent, avoiding tiring elevation changes from the valley floor. Along the itinerary, you will find two main refuges, the Maison Vieille and the Cabane du Combal, which offer refreshments and constant safety. It is the perfect trek to enjoy the majesty of Mont Blanc while walking in total relaxation.

FAQ

FAQ

How do you return to Courmayeur from the Cabane du Combal?

From the Cabane du Combal, you walk down the paved farm road to the La Visaille area (about 40 minutes). From there, you can take the local bus that conveniently brings you back to the center of Courmayeur.

Is the trail exposed or dangerous?

No, the balcony trail is wide and well-maintained. There are some sections where the slope is steep on the side, but the path is always wide and safe, making it suitable even for those who are slightly afraid of heights.

Can you spot animals along this route?

Absolutely! The area above Maison Vieille and towards the Combal is rich in marmots. With a bit of silence and binoculars, it’s easy to spot chamois on the ridges of Mont Chétif or near the moraines of the Miage glacier.
