The experience

Without a doubt, the most spectacular trek of the entire Tour du Mont Blanc

Required level

An unforgettable adventure in the heart of Val Ferret: starting comfortably from Courmayeur by bus, you reach the location of Arnouvaz. From here, a panoramic trek begins, gently ascending towards the Bonatti and Bertone huts, icons of alpine hospitality. The trail winds along a spectacular natural balcony, offering a constant and close-up view of the vertical walls of Mont Blanc and the Grandes Jorasses. Among flowering meadows and pure air, you will experience an immersive adventure in the most authentic nature of the Aosta Valley.

This trek is an experience accessible to all those with a minimum familiarity with walking, thanks to gentle slopes and well-marked paths. The route has little elevation gain: after the initial climb from Arnouvaz, it stabilizes into a magnificent almost flat balcony. Safety is ensured by the presence of two strategic huts, Bonatti and Bertone, perfect for rejuvenating breaks. It is the ideal itinerary for those seeking spectacular views of Mont Blanc without excessive effort.

Highlights

The "Balconata" of Mont Blanc: The central section between the two refuges is a nearly flat trail that offers a constant and spectacular frontal view of the entire Mont Blanc massif and the imposing Grandes Jorasses.
Historic and Welcoming Refuges: You will have the opportunity to stop at two of the most iconic structures in the Aosta Valley. The Walter Bonatti Refuge, dedicated to the famous mountaineer, is renowned for its panoramic position, while the Giorgio Bertone Refuge is famous for its hospitality and traditional cuisine.
Stage of the Tour du Mont Blanc (TMB): You will walk along a segment of the famous Tour du Mont Blanc, one of the most renowned trekking routes in the world, sharing the trail with hikers from every nation.
Biodiversity and Nature: The route traverses flowering alpine pastures, larch forests, and rhododendrons. It is very common to spot local wildlife, such as marmots whistling among the rocks or ibex grazing on the slopes above the trail.

FAQ

FAQ

Is it necessary to book the bus from Courmayeur to Arnouvaz?

In summer, the line is very busy. It is not mandatory to book a single seat, but it is essential to check the updated schedules (Arriva/SAVDA) and arrive at the stop a bit early, especially on weekends in July and August. The bus is free.

Is the route suitable for children?

Yes, it is a tour very popular with families. The trails are wide and safe. The only aspect to consider is the total length (about 20 km); for younger children, you can only cover a section (e.g., Arnouvaz-Bonatti) and descend earlier.

What happens if it rains during the hike?

Along the route, you are in luck: the Bonatti and Bertone huts offer excellent shelter. However, the balcony is exposed, so it is essential to always carry a waterproof jacket and shoes with good soles to avoid slipping in the mud.

Can I bring my dog?

Certainly! The route is perfect for dogs, but remember that you are in a mountainous area with wildlife: it is mandatory to keep them on a leash and bring enough water, although you will find some streams along the way.
